Why do we have to use toothpaste since it cannot whiten your teeth?

Question:

Answers:
I find the most effective part of a brushing regimen is Listerine. While brushing does as most people have already said (freshen temporarily, help remove plaque and add flouride), it really is pretty ineffective (especially between teeth).

So, I generally brush, then floss, then use Citrus Listerine. The Listerine is really the part that is the most effective. The Listerine is actually very effective at killing the plaque and keeping it off of the teeth for a lot longer than brushing alone. I can usually go 12-15 hours after I use Listerine (without brushing) where without it, the bad breath comes back faster and my teeth build up plaque a whole lot faster (a few hours).

lol, its like a soap used in the teeth to help brush away food pieces, plaque, etc.

white teeth aren't everything, but healthy are. we brush with toothpaste because not only does it help remove plaque, it also has flouride which helps protect the tooth and tooth enamel.

to clean our teeth. and protect it from cavities

Actually, toothpaste is not necessary. The important thing is to scrub food particles and sugar off your teeth, and you can do that with just a brush and water. The objective of brushing is to clean, not whiten, although some toothpastes claim to do that now.

it helps to fight gingivitis, cavities, and keeps you from having foul breath

spend 48hrs without brushing your teeth then u'll know why you do it.

it helps to get rid of plaque and prevent tarter build up. also, it cleans food/sugar from the enamel and helps prevent cavities. it also helps keep the gums healthy and prevent gum diseases, like gingivitis.

but on top of this, the toothpaste should be fluoridated and you should also floss, because the toothbrush cannot clean between teeth effectively. if you can stand it, also try a mouthwash.

toothpaste really doesnt do much. it freshens breath for a while. some of it has flouride which is a highly reactive element that in your mouth takes the place of calcium. in fact it can actaully cause brown spots on your teeth. those bonds are stonger than the calcium bonds though so it builds up resistance to the bacteria that causes cavities. this effect is minimal though since most people don't have brown flouride teeth. really, toothpaste is no more effective at combating tooth decay than just brushing with water. brushing is the important part.
