I had a sunburn(please read details)..

Question:
Ok I got a really bad sunburn last week, and now it is peeling all over my back. It is itching really badly, and driving me nuts. My husband is out of state, and I have no one to scratch it, or put lotion on it. Any helpful ideas? I have tried everything I can think of and can't sleep.

HAHAHA!! sorry I have had the same problem when I was a kid but I burn and go WHITE again (I hate being a redhead). Well I couldn't ask any of my friends to peal it off or scratch my back so what I did is I took a towel and took a shower with it and used it to scratch my back it worked too . I also went and was able to put something on my back as well (Lotion etc.). You can take a cheap lotion (large bottle if you can) and put some on a paper towel roll and start putting it on your back ( to get the paper towel roll off that is new here you go) you take the roll and just take it out from the middle and you will take a few towels will come out just use those to clean up what drips off the cardboard roll to the floor. I hope you have fun doing this as well have a better nights sleep.

I would steal the cats scratching post - lol

Put some aloe vera on it. It should help soothe it.

I suggest running a warm bath, and adding baby oil to the water. Just lay in it and soak for awhile, and air dry. It use to work for me.

Have you tried a chamomile bath or Aveeno bath? Those work pretty well. Also, if you can reach around enough, I used a spray before that the pharmacist recommended. It was for severe sunburns. It's numbs the area for quite a long time. It made my back cool and numb. Take an Aveeno bath, use the spray, take some ibuprofen to help with the pain, swelling, irritation, etc.

Get a sunburn spray. There used to be one called FOIL that worked well. In any case, something with an analgesic that will numb it up and stop the itching as well as the pain. PLUS, you can spray it by yourself.bonus eh

Good Luck

Not sure other than to get to a dermatologist, a bad sunburn later in life can cause cancer.

Call your neighbor. Get HER to help you.

1 of my frends had baaad sunburn. she still had to come to school and people peeled the skin off her back to anoy her, anyway, aloe vvera gel should work. if you are a sun baby, the grow an aloe vera plant so you dont have to keep buying tubes of gel. also throughout the day, rub a mousteriser in to it

For pain relief, I would suggest ibuprophen at about half the recomended dose (to reduce its side effects), and take more as needed until you reach the full dose (NOTE: it usualy takes about 10-20min. to kick in). As for the pealing and itching, I would recomend a long soak in a bath tub with "bath oil beads", they sell them just about anywhere, and unlike most bath additives (including other oils), they have very pleasent fragrences available, and don't have that "soapy" feel. Even walmar thas them in many scents, with my favorite being peach, you just buy a pack, and put however many you want in your water, they look like little transparent balls, and when put in water, they disolve. As for getting lotion on, the method I've used is to get a rag, and drench it in lotion (wasteful, but it works), then kind of span it across your back (with each hand on an oposite corner, much like using a towel to dry off, only on a smaller scale). and If the ibuprophen doesn't work, try taking Tylenol PM, and about 3-5mg of melatonin (a synthetic suplement of a chemical that ocurs naturaly in the body) . you will be out like a light (guaranteed!). but is is best to use ibuprophen if it works, because it reduces the swelling and redness, and that feeling you get like your still burning. and you can also take the melatonin with the ibuprophen (and the Tylenol to, but I wouldn't recomend it).

Anyways, Good Luck
