Hemoglobin A1C Readings?
Does anyone here have Type 1 Diabetes that has struggled with high hemoglobin A1C readings? What are you doing to decrese the numbers! I am on the insulin pump and trying to manage everything so that it's perfect has been pretty hard, my latest A1C readings have been around 8.0, and surprisingly my doctor isn't very helpful. The last time my readings were up, she was talking to me about birth control (i'm not even active)! Any help on making myself better for the future?

I'm not a diabetic but I am the parent of a type 1 diabetic.
Here are some things that have worked for us. The most important thing you can do is to take extra blood sugar tests for about one week. Test before and 1 to 2 hours after every meal. This gives you the best basis for adjusting your insulin regimine for better overall results.
So if your blood sugars are consistently high before meals (or even just one particular meal), that indicates that you need to increase your basal rate. Don't make dramatic increases, just increase a little at a time.
If your after meal tests are too high, that means your insulin to carb ratio is too low. (Some pumps allow you to program your ratio in, or you can calculate it in your head.)
Those are the most common scenarios if you are experiencing high A1C readings. However, you may find instead that you are dropping low either before or after meals and then you are having to compensate by eating sugars to bring your blood sugar back up. It is common in such cases to over compensate and send yourself too high. So if you are finding that at certain times of the day you are dropping low, then adjust either your basal or your insulin to carb ration down. By avoiding the lows, hopefully you will avoid going too high afterward.
Hopefully that helps. I would also agree with the other answer that you should pursue finding a better doctor.

Sounds like you should get a referral for a better endrocrinologist in your area.

Is there a diabetic educator near you that you could make an appointment with that would be able to help you. Are you on more than one basal rate during the day / night, are you on a good carb ratio. Check your BS before meals, if it is high you need a higher basal, check it two hours after meals, if it is high then you need more insulin with meals. check at 2-3 in the AM to make sure it is normal, depending upon how old you are hormonal changes during the night can play havoc with your glucose. Are you diligent about bolusing for everything you eat? How about correcting for high numbers. I am a diabetic educator and an insulin pump can be very effective if you use it correctly.Eat fewer carbs and try to be more active. Both of those lower blood sugar levels, which over time will lower your A1C score.
You may want to consider a different doctor.
Don't knock birth control; it helps with a lot of stuff not directly related to reproduction. Sadly, I'm not sure diabetes is one of them.
