As people above have rightly pointed out soaking in a warm bath can be very helpful; more helpful than just a shower as the soaking helps allow the warmth to penetrate more effectively. After the bath, do some gentle stretching of the area that has tightened up.

If the tight muscle is something you just woke up with one day you might also try vigorously working out the muscle in a controlled movement like biking or swimming, for a good twenty minutes or so (that is, unless you haven't moved much off a sofa for the last 12 months - and then ignore this advice)

If the tight muscle is from an actual injury or working out too hard then stick to soaking and gentle stretching for a few days to allow for healing then you can start to work out again, gradually increasing your intensity.

Valerian root will decrease muscle spasm and will act as a seditive. Boswellia is an herb that will decrease inflammation better than Ibuprofen with no side effects.
