which ear should i get pierced?

i'm thinking about getting just one ear pierced, but i'm not sure which one i should get done, the left or the right. what do you think?

When I was growing up, if you only pierced one year, it would be the left if you were straight and right if you were gay. I don't know if that is still the norm.

If you are a guy, it is usually the left ear that is pierced.
