finished one page, I will stop and think about what the author was writing about and realize I have not retained anything. Another example, my boyfriend and I had a fight yesterday morning, I rationalized with him and he came back, kissd me and apologized. On the way to work I realized I don't remember what we were fighting about.
How can I improve my memory? I do well in games, eg trivia.
I also remember all my different passwords computer, work, banking etc.

Maybe you just aren't that interesting in the subjects that you can't remember. When you play trivia games your mind is set on the game and the answers to the game when your reading a book you may not be as interested. As for not remembering the fight that you had with your boyfriend, I wouldn't worry too much about that because everyone gets into little tiffs with their loved ones and of course your not going to remember every little fight that you get into. And alot of the times its always over something stupid. So don't be so hard on yourself. If you start forgetting your name or your birthday then I would be worried. Bye, Bye now. Take Care.

You might have a problem with your emotional memory - and that's different. You couldn't remember why you were arguing because it would have felt painful to remember.

Regarding the reading - what does reading mean to you? As a child, were you ever made to feel that your weren't very good at your studies? If so, this, and things like it, can set up a complex, on an unconscious level. You can help to heal this by reassuring yourself that there is nothing wrong with your memory. Be kind to yourself about this, and try not to worry.

Do you choose what you read, or are there things you HAVE to read for study or work? If it is choice, maybe you're not choosing the things you really want to read.

If you need to retain information - eg if you are studying for an exam, or need to remember something important for work, try this:

Read out loud. It really helps!!

Make notes on a postcard - summarise the main themes.

Make brief notes on bright coloured card and stick with blu tac onto doors - any places where you will see them (I put mine in the bathroom!!) Then you will remember.

But the best way of all is to tell yourself that you have a GOOD memory, and that it is OK sometimes to forget - we all do it.
