Can i put clove oil directly in my dry socket?

I got dry socket and every other day the dentist has put the "dry socket strip" in my surgery sites. I read that the strip has eugenol which has essential clove oil that acts like and anaesthetic. I'm worried that my socket will start hurting over the long weekend and was thinking about buying some essential clove oil to eyedropper into the surgery site (bottom wisdom teeth removed). What think you, my peeps?

Does throwing up rot your teeth?

Answers:
you have to mix clove oil with another oil like vegetable oil. if you try straight clove oil it burns. it doesnt take much, its like 5 drops of clove oil to a teaspoon of another oil. it works well though.

I'm a dentist.

NEVER, EVER, put anything in an extraction site yourself!!

The materials we use are formulated specifically for medical use. We pay a lot of money for them because a lot of research went in to making them.

Besides, even if the clove oil you used was ok for medical use, it wouldn't perform the more important task of protecting the bone at the base of the extraction site. Remember, dry socket is painful because of exposed bone. The Eugenol is nothing more than a temporary anesthetic.

Furthermore, attempting to put anything in the extraction site can cause breakdown of the clot, and create a dry-socket where you weren't going to get one.

Don't screw around with it. Just leave it be.

how do I make myself have my first period?

Okay, I don't know what kind of a dentist Neb..is but I suggest you go to the dr who preformed the extraction. A dry socket can turn into a SERIOUS infection. I agree that you shouldn't be putting anything in the site your self, but DO NOT just leave it alone. Go to the ER if you have to!

IM A GIRL Does it hurt your first time?

Hello,

The answer is NO! Don't do it! Simply, a "dry socket" (we prefer to use the medical term Alveolar Osteitis) occurs at an extraction site when the blood clot is disrupted to early in the healing process.

The most important thing to do in order to heal is:

1- Avoid smoking (yeah, smokers have an increased risk for many diseases, including alveolar osteitis).
2- Keep an impeccable oral hygiene.
3- Protect the blood clot by avoiding negative pressure in the mouth (avoid drinking with a straw, for example).

Your dentist is treating you by cleaning the socket (which is an important step you can't really do alone) and by using a fibrous product in the surgical site. Along with eugenol (hence the smell), the product may contain butamben for anesthesia and some iodoform for anti-bacterial action.

Your home-made clove oil isn't the best idea, and will be deleterious to the healing process is the surgical site is not monitored by the dentist.
