I broke thermometer and got mercury on my hands. How much can get on one's skin before affecting one's health?

Question:
I didn't get sick (yet). Just curious about how much would be too much.

Answers:
If it was simply on the surface of your skin, and if you washed your hands thoroughly you will be just fine.

Other Answers:
In medieval times.. The dumb bastards drank it for health.
Don't worry about it.

A little for a short time won't hurt you.

If you're really worried about it, soak your hands in vinegar for 1/2 hr. The acid will oxidize the remaining traces.

Are you sure it was mercury? Thermometers now days don't have mercury. But, if it is silver, it's mercury, and it is dangerous. Please call your doctor or an emergency room physician and ask them what you need to do. Don't leave this up to an internet site to answer your medical questions, especially with chemicals. I used to be a CNA, and as such, talk to a doctor right NOW! <*)))><

Not a lot.... is gonna fall off in a week. You might as well get on Ripley's Believe It Or Not?
