I have curly hair too. The most impt thing is get a really good cut. Cut all those dead, dry split ends off!! Regularly! This means very 6-8 weeks. Dry, damaged hair is not pretty, and looks even rattier when it is left long.

You must use the right products for dry, curly hair. You MUST deep condition regularly too! Dry, curly hair requires extra care.

If you want to have beautiful natural curls, I highly recommend checking out this site: www.ouidad.com. Ouidad is an expert with this type of hair and you can figure out what products you need for your own type of wave or curls.

Try to not blow dry or use heat-styling tools such as curling and flat irons. If you do use them, try to limit the use by varying your style so you can just do some touch up instead of all over, and don't use everyday. Do not COOK your hair with HIGH heat settings!

Color and chemicals dry out your hair. If you color or chemically straighten, you need to be even more careful with your hair as this is additional damage!

If you blow dry, etc., be sure to always condition first. Towel dry gently (squeeze out the excess moisture with the towel, do not rough it up). Get as much water out as possible so you won't need as much time drying with the dryer. Follow with a good leave-in conditioner (do not rinse). Dry in sections with a large round brush or paddle brush (you'll have to experiment with what is right for your hair and style). Finish with a little styling cream. I like to use a tiny, tiny bit of conditioner and rub it between my hands and then smooth over my hair, from hairline to ends, finally putting a tiny bit more on ends if they look a little fuzzy.

Sleep with your hair pulled up in a ponytail on top of your head (use a soft satin scrunchie) to prevent knots and tangles when you sleep. This also helps keep your straight hair style looking good.

Be sure and drink plenty of water. Eat healthy and well! Take care of yourself. Stress can be very hard on you and your hair. Make sure you are getting enough protien (esp. impt. if you are a vegetarian). Take a good daily supplement too. Use olive oil in place of other fats/oils in your diet.
Protect your hair from wind, sun, chlorine and salt water.

Best tip: when you see another woman with beautiful healthy curls, ask her about her hair! Don't be shy. Compliment her and ask how she gets it to look like that (and you might even make a new friend)! That's how I found out about the Ouidad line and many other products. Ask people. Ask your stylist. Read articles on hair care. Experiment with your own. Make the most of the hair you have by making it healthy.
