I was diag with genital herpes 10 yrs ago but my husband has never had an outbreak?

My husband has never had an outbreak and mine have never been bad. I will occaisonally get a sore spot but no horrible looking sores ot anything. It was diag 10 yrs ago as genital herpes. I questioned for a while if that was really what it was since I had already been married for a few yrs at the time I was diagnosed. But it does seem to happen when stressed or around time of my menstrual cycle. What I am curious about and is hard to ask my Dr. is about oral sex. If my husband has never had an outbreak, am I at risk if I perform oral sex on him and am I doomed to never safely have it performed on me?

emillea is right - He is at risk of contracting oral herpes. That other answer is wrong about you not getting cold sores from genital herpes. Type 1 and 2 can both cause the same results. They can both cause oral or genital herpes. And even when you have no symptoms, the virus may be shedding. You can take prescription valtrex which can help suppress your symptoms, but even with that it is still possible to spread the virus. I know this stinks, only God can heal someone of genital herpes. But I believe all things are possible with Him. Until He does it, use wisdom.

I've heard of couples going years and years without the other partner ever contracting the disease their spouse has. I'm actually in the same situation you are in. I was diagnosed with genital herpes 4 years ago, and my boyfriend of years doesn't have herpes. Usually when you get herpes your initial breakout is within 2-3 weeks from when you got it. So if he's never had a breakout I would assume he doesn't have it. Also there are two kinds of herpes, as I'm sure you know. Genital herpes (HSV-2) and HSV-1 which cause cold sores. So you can only get HSV-2 from having sex, and HSV-1 from any mouth to mouth thing (kissing.etc.). So if you were to give him oral sex you wouldn't get cold sores (even if he had genital herpes). And as for him giving you oral sex, I don't think he should be worried either. He won't get genital herpes from you if he gives you oral sex. I hope all that makes sense. Good luck!

use a condom but if you have already had unprottected sex with your husband, then he has it too. some people don't get the outbreaks but still carry the disease. if you too should ever split up or cheat on each other you must let the other person your with know that you have herpes or else you will infect someone without their knowledge. may God Bless you both in your time of need.

Yes!You are still at risk even if you husband does not have an outbreak while you are performing oral sex. He may end up with oral herpes(cold sores). The same goes for him. The chances are much lower if no sores are present but the virus could still be "shedding".
You can also go many years without having an outbreak and still have the virus. Man usually have less symptoms then women but they may not have any at all.

you can give oral sex to him as long as you don't have an outbreak on your mouth at the time. You can receive oral sex as long as you don't have an outbreak at the time. There are no cases of genital herpes being passed on to someone's face. EVER.
