When you got your Rx from the drugstore, they should have given you the pamphlet that tells about the medication. If you didn't get one, go back and ask for it, or ask your doctor. Some antidepressents can have adverse effects on young people. Whatever you do, keep an eye on her for any radical behaviour changes.

If you have faith & trust in her DR. sounds like an appropriate dose to me..meds aren't always for ever and you will learn something .. if it works .great.if not get her Dr. to stop it & again you have learned something ..may not be best med choice for her try some other medication.If the white of your eye gets punctured, how do doctors go about fixing it?
Nobody here is qualified to say if it is safe or not but I can tell you that Amitriptyline is not in the same class as the antidepressants that have been supposedly linked to an increase in suicidal behavior in children. There are studies now that say that antidepressants are more dangerous when taken in adolescents. It also bites because the drugs take up to 4 weeks to become effective meaning that a lot can happen in those 4 weeks. I would say continue to monitor her, if she is declining I would take her back to her Doctor to get rechecked and to get a medication change.I am bulimic and just found out I also suffer from anorexia?
