my sister got braces and she says they hurt, but i don't know. do they hurt?

Question:
my sister got braces yesterday and she is literaly screaming in pain. but my sister is a very atenntion seeking child. and she lies a lot. i don't know wether to belive her or not. i have never had braces. if she was a normal child, i would never want braces even if my teeth hurt a lot already. evan though she is so attention seeking the way she screams, it is like someone was pounding nails into the palms of her hands. i kind of feel bad for her, but i do not know if that is the right choice to make. i realy don't want to make her feel bad. please help!

Answers:
Yes, they hurt when first put on and the tissues inside the mouth are very sore. Does it hurt so badly that she should be screaming in pain like someone is stabbing her? No, it doesn't hurt *that* bad. it's more uncomfortable than anything. Have your parents give her 800 mg of Ibuprofen, which is prescription strength and that should help her with the discomfort.

Also, everytime she goes to the orthodontist for an adjustment, her mouth will be sore for a day or two after the visit. If she's the attention getter that you say she is, be prepared to listen to her complain at those times also.

I think you're a little bit too concerned with this.
But yes, they hurt like hell at first.

when you first have them put out they really hurt then it goes away then everytime you go to the dentist to get your wires changed it hurt for a day or two.

i have had braces twice

braces do not hurt. They feel kinda numb a bit. When you get your braces on, try not to bite on anything hard or even something soft. Try eating soup or mashed potatoes. That always helps. The slight pain should go away in a few days and you won't even know they're on.

Ask your mom or dad to give you some tylenol when you get the braces on if they hurt.

they do hurt. when i first get them and when they tightened them i couldn't eat anything hard cuz they hurt too much. If she's literally screaming, she's probably making too big of a deal out of it. i was happy when i got them off. but just give her asprin or something like that.

They can hurt pretty bad!
