It is caused by something new or something we thought could never happen to us, but did. I'm experiencing anxiety too. My thoughts reach the deepest crevasse, the infinite, and all permutations covered. I do not have first aid. I only give you my current state which i have about a week after this new year. It's agonizing; I'm emaciated and people around me still talk about if this food is delicious or if that car looks classy or not. You get what i'm saying, i suppose.

I don't know what chemicals contribute to anxiety but if I were you I would try meditiating. I have been doing so for the past 6 months and am so much calmer and happier. I can really tell the difference on the days that I do meditate compared to the days that I dont. You can take a class to teach you how or just check out a book at your local library but if meditating doesnt help you should definetly see a doctor. When mine saw how stressed I was getting he told me to try meditation but yours may have something completely different. Good luck!
When you have anxiety you have an increase in your serotonin levels. I also have anxiety. Avoid drinking caffeine beverages, or having any caffeine for that matter. Try working out, jogging, or something that uses up your energy. You should go to the doctor and get some meds. to help you out. I take celexa..it's a great pill, and my anxiety symptoms have been relieved. I wish you the very best. Good luck!
