hysterectomy?
Question:
Answers:
ive heard some people say it does and others it doesnt. If a hysterectomy is going to benefit your health i say go for it. A little weight can always be lost. If not getting it will continue to make you ill , i say go for it. If its a safety thing thrn maybe look at other option if your concerned about weight gain. good luck
Other Answers:
It can. Just depends on the person and their hormones.
hysterectomy no, but hormone replacement can cause weight gain and fluid retention
yes. I was a size 12 when I had a partial one and put on lots of weight and it is hard to take off. if you r concrened about it then talk to your doctor they may be able to help you keep the weight off. good luck!
Well, I know my wife had a hysterectomy and so have several of our friends, and none of them has gained any noticable weight over ten years or so.
I would suspect that if you keep your activity level up that there will be no significant difference from what you are now.
Most women that I know of that have had this procedure gained about 10-15 pounds in the 1st year. Some stopped gaining and others gain about 2-3 pounds every year still.
It really depends upon the hormones in the woman's body.
are we talking just the uterus or the ovaries also. Most the time I see patients putting on weight is because their doc took the ovaries also. This messes up the hormones, as if they aren't already messed up. If the hormones were all normal, you probably wouldn't be getting one. If you can avoid having it done, please don't do it - get some natural help (acupuncture, herbs, chiropractic).
If a woman's ovaries are removed during a hysterectomy (a complete hysterectomy), her body is instantly pushed into menopause. The ovaries produce estrogen, progesterone, and androstenedione. When they are removed the levels of these hormones drop dramatically and the effects on a woman's body can be varied. One of the frequent complaints of women who have had a hysterectomy, is weight gain, particularly around the waist. This a complaint they share with many women who experience a similar type of weight gain as they grow older and go through menopause.

Weight gain is common as we get older, and since most women who have hysterectomies are in their 40s and 50s, it is mainly coincidence that a few pounds appear after the surgery. There can be some minor weight gain due to decreased activity for several weeks as one recuperates, but this should resolve once one gets back into one's normal exercise habits.
