What will happen to my teeth if I keep chewing ice?

Question:
Over the long term?

Answers:
Happened to a friend. Your teeth develop hairine cracks running vertically. As you continue to chew ice the cracks expand exposing nerves and causing pain. In time you will need crowns. It takes several years for that though.

Other Answers:
They'll get REALLY cold.

your teeth will crack. that happened to my husband. likes to chew ice.

nothing will happen it just could break one . or make them stronger. i did for 7 mths when i was having a baby for 3 of my kids so that was about 21 mths and there is nothing wrong with them.

its like chewing on rocks. its bad for your teeth and sets you up for problems later.

Don't keep chewing ice. They will, as someone suggested, get hairline fractures/bigger fractures and weaken the natural tooth structure. These fractures can over time weaken the tooth, cause tooth sensitivity, and break the tooth down making it more susceptible to decay. It is going to be a hard habit to break. Chewing on the crushed variety of ice is better then the bigger chunks. Stopping now may save you a lot of time and money in the future.
