I've been working out for a while now and I've gained weight, what am I doing wrong?
Question:
Answers:
How long is a while and how much weight have you gained? What kind of exercise are you doing? How many calories are you eating?
If you've recently started weight training, you are likely retaining water weight in your muscles. This tends to drop after 6 - 8 weeks of weight training.
It's also possible that you aren't eating enough calories or are eating too many calories. I recommend the BMR/RMR and activity calculators at http://www.caloriesperhour.com They are helpful for figuring out how many calories you should be eating.
Another good website is http://www.sparkpeople.com You can plan meals, journal your eating, plan and journal your exercise, set and track goals. It's a free website.

You are not doing anything wrong. Muscle weighs more then fat. You are replacing the fat with muscle.which is a good thing!
So what has happened is you have gained musle mass. Muscle weighs more than fat so "weight" isn't really an accurate representation of health. You have to measure and see if you have lost inches and recalcualte your BMI to tell if you are doing better.
It could just be that your metabolism is slow to react. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so in the early stages don't look at the scale as much as how you're clothes are fitting. Remember that if you restrict your calories too much, your body will go into starvation mode too.
the life form of excess is trading fuels in which to complete the catabolic process, therefore great progress appears as little or none.hence the weight gain,it takes a bigger engine to consume a lighter fuel.this is true progress, not the plateau.

Diet is more important than exercise. Its less important when you eat and what exactly you eat. Total calorie intake is the deciding factor.
You could've gained muscle. Don't trust the scale to measure your progress have your bodyfat percentage measured regularly. You can have this done at most fitness centers and by your Doctor. Don't pay any attetion to those stupid Body Mass Index charts they show you either. According to those charts Arnold Schawerzenegger was obese.in his hey day!
