My 8 year old has trouble sleeping?

Question:
The doctor perscribed a sleeping pill foer him that I am not comfortable giving him. I would like to try valarain, anybody know how much to use? I don't want to knock him out, like the perscribed meds do, just a gentle assist and help him STAY asleep.

Answers:
My child is three, and autistic, and has sleep issues, too. I use products from Melaleuca, the one that helps him has chamomile, so you could try that. You can buy chamomile tea at any store. If he doesn't like the taste of it, make it up then mix it with juice, or whatever you give him to drink. Just don't let him see you do it. What I use helps him sleep, but doesn't knock him out, I even give it to him during the day to help calm his tantruming.

Other Answers:
if you can add more details of why he can't sleep that would be helpful.

i don't like the idea of giving kids meds. does he nap in the day? if so, maybe keep him up instead so he gets tired?

get him more active in sports so he will be tired.

maybe put a small tv in his room to keep he occupied while lying in bed until it tires him out.

try soft background music.
