Do starvation diets work?
Question:
Answers:
No they don't work, starvation diets are only short term. I tried and I gained all the weight back starving myself. I am currently on this other diet my Dr. recommeneded to me called Medifast. It teaches you to eat 5-6 small meals a day every 2-3 hours to speed up your metabolism. You willlose weight quickly with very little exercise. I have lost 26 lbs. so far. If you want the number just e-mail me at lovejae247@yahoo.com

I don't seeing people screaming success stories, do you?
No!!
NO, your body goes in stravation mode and you don't lose weight fast that way.
Yes, if you want to give yourself a slow, prolonged, mentally[and physically]-painful death.
I guess, but its not healthy at all, and I wouldn't call it a diet. There are much healthier ways out there to lose weight.
No, only short term, and are very unhealthy
no, when you starve yourself, your body goes into a sort of panicky survival mode, and starts storing fat really really fast, this is because it doesn't know when it will eat next so it stores fat for later.. it doesn't really work
no they don't because your metabolic rate slows right down then you gain the weight back when you eat., plus your body burns muscles as food further slowing down your metabolic rate.
Initially, yes. Your body starts burning fat to live. However, as your body realizes there isn't going to be food, it starts to burn as little fat as necessary so that it can survive as long as possible. Eventually you will get really sick, or begin to eat again. When you do eat, your body will try to store every possible calorie since it doesn't know when more will come and is trying to survive. If you begin to eat a normal diet, you'll gain all the weight back and more. Plus, you'll start to screw up your metabolism.
Only till you stop.
no, they actually make you very ill, uncomfortable, or gain more weight.
wish it did because my wife is a whale
No. In reality, they stop the metabolism after a day or two of not eating, and the body starts eating muscle away rather than fat. I've been there, done that. And trust me, it didn't work. Smaller, more frequent meals works better than stopping eating all together.
you wont know until you try it
Probably eventually, but you'd have to starve yourself for weeks or even months. When you don't eat, your body shuts down your metabolism and you can't lose weight. Best advice. burn more calories than you take in. Eat a well-balanced diet and exercise regularly.
No way..and you actually gain water weight and feel weak. No diets are good, eat well and stay moving. A little CM doesn't hurt either.
Sassy
well no they can kill u look up karen carpenter on a search
not unless you're in a POW camp
No, because your body just shuts down because its not getting anything and when you finally do eat it hangs on to everything it can, not knowing when it will get nourishment again. Therefore you're just making it worse on yourself, and some people actually gain weight on starvation diets.
actuly they work at first but then hurt your health so you become anerexic and it becomes an addiction
Hell naw
Yes you lose weight quick, but the wieght your losing is water weight(which you gain back from drinking water) and starving yourself puts your body into survival mode so the next time you eat it stores all the fat so you gain the wieght. Its better to tone muscles since that will burn fat and its healthier
They do work but not alot.I did that for a week and I did lose some weight but I felt so weak. So I stop doing that.I'm thinking of doing that again because the was the last time I really got into a diet and since then I have gain alot of weight.
Yes it will cause you to lose weight by the simple facts of physics. You expend calories and no matter what your body does, it cannot make nutrition, you are not a plant. Those saying your body will prevent weight loss are not correct.
However, starving yourself is hard to do and quite unhealthy. You will also lose muscle tone, and not have the energy to exercise which will be difficult to sustain. The best way is to have it both ways. Instead of expending 1500 calories in a starvation induced spell of inactivity, eat 1500 calories and burn off 800 a day on exercise. With this regimine it is possible to stay sane and full while losing weight and attaining better health with exercise.
I like eating and exercising allows you to eat more and feel better!
not unless you have a wish to go to the hospital or a death with, duh
Most of these answers are right on point. The body goes into survival mode and starts storing fat to make up for starvation. I also want to add that starvation diets are very tough on your internal organs and starving yourself can and will be fatal. Your body can only handle this for so long before it rejects food all together and you die. I have been trying to lose weight for a very long time. I have gone from a size 56 waist to around a size 48 men's waist. I have been losing this weight for over a year now and it is coming off slowly. I am 39 years old and I have a harder time than a younger person. If you are a girl i would first ask, are you over reacting or do you really need to lose weight. I am 6'2" and have been over 350 lbs. I don't know what i weigh right now, but it is down a little. I know for a fact that diet alone has never helped me to lose weight. I have always used a combination of diet and exercises. Please don't start the starvation diet. If you have a family doctor consult your doctor first about do you need to lose weight and then about how you can do it right.
you lose wait but will look sick and disgusting one of friends in high school was anorexic (sp) and she still gets sick to this day because of what it did to her body
Yes, they work at KILLING YOU!
*Be careful*
The problem with starvation and crash dieting is:
* you lose more MUSCLE than you would on a more sensible plan, which makes maintenance difficult
* it leads to malnutrition, gall bladder problems etc
* it does not teach you how to eat to maintain weight
* you're more likely to end up binge eating, which will lead to depression over time
* if you need to drop about over 40+ pounds, fasting is unlikely to get you there.
* in the final stages of starvation many people gain a lot of weight because of edema (swelling / accumulation of fluid in parts of the body that are most affected by gravity). That's not a pretty sight at all! So, if you starve to lose weight, you might find that for all your work, you have not lost any, although, obviously, your body fat, muscles, bones, etc will be replaced by water.
You can lose weight the healthy way without depriving your body and endangering your life, but rather cutting your calorie intake and exercising daily.
Do this instead:
-- Take a 20-minute walk each day till you can work up to an hour
-- Giving up whatever major binge food you might be choosing (like sweets)
-- Adding more vegetables to your daily intake - which will fill you up at lower calorie costs
-- Saying no to fried foods and packaged, processed junk food
-- Making sure you eat some source of protein with each meal
-- Adopting an attitude of willingness and patience
*One step at a time, one day at a time. Good luck to you!*
