No, some heavy scientific research has already shown that pigeons are very resistant to bird flu (at least the variant which is a cause of concern presently). I don't presently have access to the note I got from a veterinarian friend, but it's been shown in Germany under strict testing that pigeons are very very resistant to this particular disease.

Also, pigeons are no more "rats", than are canaries or budgies (parakeets) or doves.
