Goosebumps are caused by coldness so stay warm

If I remember corectly goose bumps are an atempt by your skin to stay warm: the little pricles are actually your hair folicles, which are trying to raise your hairs. That way as much air as possible will by trapped by your hairs near your skin providing some insulation.

High school science via my memory.

Well obviously, the cold. I think it is a mechanism for standing your body hair up and if you had hair like an ape it would insulate you better.

Well. the goosebumps are remainders of the days where humans still had more fur.
The purpose of goosebumps was to get up the fur so an air cussion would build to keep "the ape" warm, or make him look bigger when hes scared.

Its a reflex triggered by chilling emotions so you would have to try and avoid scary things and cold environments.
