Any other young women have the copper IUD?

Question:
Under what conditions was it prescribed?
I got my doctor to insert it last year eventhough I was young (25) and have no kids- hormonal contraception was simply giving me too many side effects and I am super scared of getting pregnant (and know I don't want kids for a LONG time).

What has your experience been so far? How long have you had it?
I've had mine for a year, after the first five months of heavy periods and cramping, I have gotten back to mostly normal and totally love it.

Just curious if there were anyone else who has it, and if my experience has been "normal". My friends are asking me.

Answers:
I've had one for 5 months now. I'm 26, have one child and no plans to have any more. I was looking for an alternative to birth control pills. Initially I was looking into the Essure insert but it was too permanent, I wanted the ability to change my mind if I wanted another kiddo.

Getting the IUD inserted was uncomfortable. The next few days were torture. I was afraid I'd rip something if I farted. My periods were pretty normal but the last two have been bothersome (light but neverending). Overall I'm pleased with this method.

My sister had it, and it became impacted and infected. Have it taken out NOW!
