how to increase seretonin naturally with foods?

Question:
i think i may have OCD.Some days worse then others, i notice that my diet triggers the symptoms more then anything else.
how do i increase my seretonin levels NATURALLY with food?
dosen't St.Johns wort increase seretonion?
also what should i do to avoid sapping my body of seretonin?

Answers:
eat chocolate, cocoa, use chocolate shower gel or shower foams (as even the chocolate smell helps produce serotonin), exercise (as in body work). all these help ;)
and, so you don't get all mushy because of serotonin lack, do 30 minutes of jogging or some thing like that daily and eat half a chocolate bar. plus, you must have regular healthy meals so you can keep your shape and you could also eat half a lemon daily. that helps with your Vitamin C, which is very importnat, and you can never have "too much Vitamin C", cause the surplus is eliminated through urine ;)) it's only the truth, even if it sounds silly ;))

Other Answers:
Foods don't contain serotonin, because it's too large a molecule to permeate the blood-brain barrier.

Foods that contain large portions of tryptophan, the pre-curser to serotonin are:

turkey
dairy
wheat products

These foods may help increase the natural production of serotonin in one's brain.

Care must be taken in any attempt to increase serotonin levels, as a dangerous condition known as serotonin syndrome may result. This is especially a concern if multiple serotonergic agents interact to increase 5-HT levels - such as can happen when St John's wort is taken in combination with an SSRI. @: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serotoni.

Hi Sven,
I read an interesting article in a 'quality' newspaper some months ago outlining chicken and turkey meat (or eggs for vegetarians) as being effective. I felt no benefit from St. John's Wort, but in fairness I did need proper medication. I am bi-polar with some obsessive side issues and find that diet itself comes secondary to:
1)correct medication
2) getting up to an alarm clock each day
3) daily exercise
4) having a hobby
5) having a pet(s).

Best of luck !
