Our son has had hives for 3 years. All tests show no allergy. Do you have ideas or cures?

Question:
The hives are raised, red and spread all over the body. They appear randomly and they have gotten worse over the past 6 months. He is breaking out every day!! He is getting scars from all the itching and had a hive from his knee to his hip yesterday. Now, when he gets them on his fingers they swell, hurt and can't bend. On the soles of his feet when they appear it hurts to walk. I am afraid they will travel to his throat. Nobody is concerned and I am going crazy. I will travel anywhere and try anything. If you have anything to help with the symptoms or cure please let me know. Thank you!

Answers:
Provex CV, Renew skin lotion. One works from the inside and the other one the outside.

Since there isn't an allergy problem, then he's possibly suffering from some nutritional deficiency. I would immediately suspect a mineral deficiency rather than a vitamin. GNC stores (if you have one nearby), or a good health foods store would have a good selection of supplements. Just check with the family doctor first to make sure your son is able to take them.

Skin tests often show negative results even though the person is allergic to something. I know I had hundreds of them as a kid. You must use a methodical process of elimination. Pets? Dogs and cats and their dander can cause a great number of allergic reactions including skin rashes. Soaps? Both bathing and laundry detergents can cause skin rashes. (Try some thing without perfumes or dyes and something that has been around for years, some of the newer laundry detergents such as Tide's clean rinse, have been known to cause skin rashes in some people.

The rash could also be a sign of a food allergy. I recommend you find a good pediatrician that has experience with allergies.

Hydrocortisone or calamine lotion might give some temporary relief but you have to find the cause.

Good Luck and make sure you’re nice to the kid ;-)

Same thing with my daughter. could never find an allergy. Turns out it was the laundry detergent causing the hives. I now use a "free" laundry detergent such as "Cheer Free", "Tide Free" or "All Free". Since I changed detergents, there have been no more hives.

I am not sure if your child has any other symptons or not but allergy test would not pick up on a disease called Celiac Sprue Disease. My daughter has celiac disease. She did not have a rash. But some celiac patients get a rash and the disease goes undiagnosed for years. Its when a person is allergic to wheat, rye, oats, and barley. A blood test could rule this out for you. you may want to look this up on the computer and see if your child is experiencing any other symptons.
