Has anyone saved the cord blood from their newborn baby and if so has there been an illness or such where it?

Question: has been neede. I was just wondering because I have a 7 month old and when I was pregnant I had people calling me wanting to know if I would be interested in doing this. I just had never heard too much on it but now I see a lot of commercials about it. Just wondering..

I didn't myself, but my cousin saved his children's cord, and the one girl developed luekemia. She is still alive and well and a very beautiful woman.

I would have loved to have saved my son's cord blood, but it was just too expensive at the time. Since I knew we couldn't afford it, I would have loved to have donated it for research/people in need of it, but didn't learn of that possibility until after he was born (he was 8 weeks preemie). But they are doing research to help with diseases like cancer and diabetes.
