We have to have something be socially unacceptable.
it's just a social standard.. like eating with your mouth open, or putting your elbows on the dinner table etc. (im sure there are more, i just cant think of any right now)
i don't care sometimes. at best, i'll go into a secluded area (bathroom, corner) let it out and walk away fast. if someone smells, oh well.
Next time I gotta cut one loose, I'll be sure to find you and put your face next to my *ss. LOL
Well.first off it has to do with the smell. No one wants to smell a fart! Ewwwwww. Also the sound of a fart is gross. It's just a gross bodily function that people like to keep private.some don't (like my dad for instance!).
I have no problem farting, i dont try to push it and make it louder, but when i do fart i just say "oops" or "excuse me" in a joking manner so other people dont feel uncomfortable like i hope they didint hear me.
i fart all thre time mostly in public, it doesnt bother me if someone else does it tho,(unless it smells of course)
spitting up phlegm in public tho, discuting.
we just have to make standards to seperate us from the animals. It's not a crime, just a standard. If you want to fart in public, so be it, but hopefully I won't been there to smell your stanky farts!

I know what u mean, i think society has taken a turn for the worse, with things such as that. A few others r like if u r black or white, if u have a lisp(and it isnt on pupose, people still think ur gay though, i dont have a lisp but my brother does), and if ur fat or not fat. I still agree with u.
It's offensive. Manners like this go back centuries. The whole point is to do what you can to make the air and space around another person comfortable. It shows respect for that person. The smell and unpleasant sound of a fart ruins that.
Basically because it stinks! Animals do it, true, but dogs don't shake hands either. Would you be comfortable if someone walked up and sniffed your butt? I mean dogs do it.
I guess is the smell and the the whole idea of having to listen to it, some times just the sound of it alarms people and some are so silent but they smell awful and people have the right not to listen or smell your venting functions, you have to be discrete and let it out privately, I know its better to loose a friend than have your gut kill you with pain, but its a thing of common logic, farts are gross and that's what we had being taught so we tend to feel offended and the farter is a rude sob. it´s a cultural thing, and tradition has to do with it, but its pretty normal that your gasses get released because that means your body is working fine. So next time you fart, fart loosely on open spaces and when you are in public race to an open space and be discreet and be a happy farter.
I think that it is so much better to let it out then keep it in, it is apart of everyday normal life..even this is being pointed out on the nick channel.

Social acceptability criteria forms very slowly and changes very slowly. Farting in public today is "less" unacceptable than it was 50 years ago. Just wait another 50 years.
I fart all the time and I don't care cause most of the time don't smell except when I have them rice and beans lol
