wow

it's hard. you cant just think happy thoughts and suddenly be happy when you are or feel depressed.
The only thing that worked for me when i felt depressed was to keep busy, and wait until it is over.
eventually it will go away, it took me like a month or so.
good luck

It takes a lot of mental strength not to be overcome by what we feel as humans.

Take it one step (second, minute, hour, day, etc.) at a time. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.

life is to short to be like this.

That is a two faced way to live. First rule is to be honest with yourself, then be honest with others. You will find depression less a factor when you are true to yourself, because it doesn't matter how you feel inside, it's how you feel proud about the way you deal with life.

Do think of something happy! It really helps. And remember you are precious in the sight of God, dont ever loose hope.
God loves you, He will never leave you nor forsake you.

well if you are a negative person do this: for every negative thing you say say three positive things about it.
or instead try to find ten positve things throught out your day even if they are just little things like: those are pretty flowers.start of small then just increase every two weeks or every so often. i went through a very had time in my life where i almost commit suicide too many times to count then my big sis told me to do this. these couple things are so small but they changed my life and made it so i can live. all the best of luck to you.

Hey buddy,

Don't be down, first thing. Remember - "As you think, so you are."! So, why do you think so are always depressed. Depression state is always momentory. it will pass on! then you will feel moments of joy, in fact only then you can feel intensity of joy! It's the contrast, the principle of contrast that's imp to understand. You can read the book 'coz its on a white paper! See the contrast. Like wise you can feel n live the intensity of good moments if you have lived these moments to its fullest.

Take it as a bliss buddy! Enjoy this too! Whtz the problem. Be alone, if you want for some time! Being alone for some is also beautiful. This way you will accumulate energy. Then fully living it, go n enjoy the party! Rock n roll with your full energy. Live that moment with full intensity too.!

Isn't it quite easy :-).

Its really really hard. . . . . you have to learn to have happiness and i know that sounds unfair but its true - It really is unfair that we have to have a chemical embalance but whose to blame for it? ? ? The definition of depression is - A psychological disorder characterized by extreme sadness, an inability to concentrate, and feelings of helplessness, and dejection. So it makes it even harder to feel happy because ur so depressed you cant concentrate, thats when you have to learn that the happiness is there and that its not that you can't be happy its that ur letting the depression take over. However, there are some things you can do during ur day to make urself snap out of it, just by making urself do something you don't really want to do - like when i'm in a really depressed mood i make myself go to work and do everything i had planned to do before i started feeling that way and then i began to get happier realizing that now I had control! Used to i would let it ruin my life and when i got depressed i would let it be in control and i would just lay there. . . .think about it.

When people suggest simple solutions such as think happy thoughts, be grateful for what you have, and keep busy to solve a serious illness called depression they are trying to be helpful. they are not being helpful. but thank them anyways. you could also suggest that they follow up with educating themselves on the illness. you cant cure any other illness by thinking happy thoughts either. there is cbt though which is a long term therapy that includes being more aware of your thoughts and emotions. something like that is very helpful for some kinds of depression. what kind do you have? you need to get it diagnosed if you dont know. you might only get it this once in your life. which is a nice happy thought if you're currently depressed!

If I were you I would ignore those who say ''look at the bright side and be happy'' If I am depressed I would meditate and bring myself in control to be on the top of any situation.

That's just as bad as someone saying, "snap out of it." I know cause that's what people, including my mother-in-law said to be when I was depressed.
I was treated pretty poorly from those who've never experienced it and I know I'm not the only one. I have since completed a series of workshops to help my recovery. In these workshops, they teach you not to listen to these people. You don't just snap out of depression or think happy thoughts to make it go away. You seek help and work on a wellness plan to recovery. I learned that there are too many insensitive people who just don't understand the true ramifications of depression. But these people also don't understand the illness, and it is an illness. So they try to avoid dealing with you and your problems by giving you some sugar-coated advice. And that's too bad. I just don't wish it on them.

I agree, words from others who have no understanding of who you feel you are is small consolation at best.

I've had depression most of my life.

The only way to the answer I've found is by immersing myself in the writings, and stories about the humblest people seeking help, and whose been eager to console them for just being who they are, and then giving them new ideals to live up to, helping others.
