A real easy way to slim them down is to lift up onto the balls of your feet a bunch of times. Like your tippie toeing in rapid succession. It's easy at first but after doing it about ten times you should start to feel a burn. We do this in my karate class and it's surprisingly effective. It's also good because you can do it almost anywhere (probably not in public though) :)

The best way is to do calf raises on a step or other raised platform. Do 25 with your toes pointing forward (regular), then 25 with your toes pointing out (like a ballerina), and 25 with your toes pointing in (like a duck). This way you work the whole calf muscle.
