why do only black people get sickle cell?

Question:
why is it

Answers:
It's not an all or nothing thing, actually. Other races can get it, although it is far more common among blacks. The reason for this is that sickle cell is a genetic trait that confers advantange to those living in malaria-prone areas of the world, of which many parts of Africa and the Mediterranean are included. Sickle cell trait carriers are more resistant to malaria (as the parasite cannot survive well in sickled cells), and thus they passed this on to at least some of their children. In order to have the full-blown anemia, you must inherit the gene from BOTH parents.

Other Answers:
its not true. sicle cell can happen to others also!

It is a genetically transmitted disorder and Negroes carry this gene.

It's in the genes but you can get it if you're mixed.

that is not true.. white people and hispanic people get sickle cell too,, but some ethnicities are more sensitive to some diseases than others.. for example chinese people suffer a lot from liver problems, white people heart problems, hispanic people asthma, black people sickle cell, hispanic people can survive resistent TB, but black people if they get resistent TB they mostly die..

black people are MOSTLY the ones who get that disease however they have found cases in white people, the only difference is that a black person can normally function and have a normal and active life living with it as long they take care of it.but when a white persong gets it they usually die
