Anyone with some knowledge of poison ivy can you give me some advice?

Question:
hi. last friday i went camping and on saturday i noticed a few bumps on my legs. i didnt pay much attention to them or really even look at them figuring they were mesquito bites. but sunday i actually took a good look at my legs and what was itching me and noticed that i had some rashes forming. some of the rashes looked like long lines of blisters and in other places splotches of blisters. i was confused at first then i came to the conclusion i might have came in contact with poison ivy. so i went to the store because the ithching was driving me up a wall. i bought cortizone 10. because it was a few dollars more then the other itch relief cremes i saw and i wanted the better quality. well it worked okay. but some friends of mine at work kept telling me to get benadryl, so after work tonight i got it.i just put it on about 15 min ago. what i want to know is if the benadryl will help the healing process? and what else might you recommend? also the rashes emit clear ooze. normal?

Answers:
That's poison ivy alright. It won't spread from the oozing-that's your body fighting the allergic reaction. The plant has an oil called urushiol that binds to skin cells and causes the reaction. There's a fairly new product called Zanfel that will wash the toxin out of your skin. Walmart and many pharmacies carry it. Fairly expensive but it doesn't take much.

Other Answers:
take an oatmeal bath.get some calimine lotion (never anything greasy) the greasyness will help it spread.keep it dry at all times.never scratch.only dab with a soft towel.but calimine lotion and the oatmeal bath is the best thing you can do.and you can alsl get a shot from your doctor if it starts to get outa hand.but do not.i repeat.do not let it get out of hand.i have had it many times and i let it get out of control.i had it everywhere.and i do mean everywhere.not one place on my body didnt have it except for my checks and mouth.
