How long should he wear a sling for?
My son has a possible greenstick fracture in his wrist which couldnt be picked up on X-ray,he is wearing a splint (put on by the hospital) and a sling.
He did it yesterday, and wore the sling to school, but took it off to play football (which he was told not to do!!)
His wrist is aching now and i have put the sling back on, anybody have any advice as to how long he should use the sling for?

The sling is used for a number of reasons. First off, it's to keep the broken/fractured part of the arm from swinging around and causing more fractures, breakage, and pain. That's obvious.
The second thing which isnt as obvious is that he needs to keep it on so that he doesnt have blood flowing to that region in his arms causing bad circulation and immflamation.
The cast is heavy and it will create bad circulation. The pain he is feeling is from that along with the physical strain he put on his arm. This type of dull throbbing pain is very unpleasant.
The kid needs to keep his sling on till he can get the cast off. Simple as that.
On a side note, if you get bitten by a dog, the doctors make you wear a sling. It keeps your hand from getting bad circulation. So there you go, make him keep it on.
