Atkins Diet?

Question:
How can i be flexible with it? Is it Good

Answers:
Just lower your carbs. Cut down on the bread, rice, pancakes, tortillas, and potatoes. And cut out all of the sugar snacks and junk food. Eat salads. You can eat unlimited meat and vegetables. I stopped drinking soda, eating junk, and eating bread & potatoes. I hate to cook, so I am not good with Atkins. But I lost 20 just doing this. It works, I know a man who I worked with who followed it by the book and lost an extreme amount of weight. Look into it.

It's not flexible, I'd recommend a GI diet, far easier to stick to and much healthier.

No atkins is not good .Cuz after you are done with it you get fatter mor faster!it doesn't stay off do weight watchers

Like most fad diets it's dangerous for long term use. rather than cut out carbs alltogether simply lower the carb intake and swap heavily processed foods for less processed alternatives. ie White bread to whoel grain. Increase your protein intake .eat more lean meat, fish and chicken if you're not a vegetarian. Lots more leafy greens and pick and choose your fruit ie more apples and citrus rather than grapes or bananas.

basically depriving your body of carbs is stupid. That's your longterm energy. If you want to do Atkins make sure it's only for a few weeks .it's the kind of thing you do when you have an event to go to.

remember Mr Atkins died of a heart attack and about 5 kilos (10 pounds) overweight.

The problem with fad diets like Atkins is that as soon as you stop them you put on extra weight. Atkins promotes low carbs and carbs are the best energy food, which your muscles are fueled by. Your muscles need carbs to work properly. If there's no carbs the muscles will get tired. Its not a great idea to eat a lot of carbs at night because they are stored in your body as fat until they are needed for use. Carbs are a great breakfast or lunch time food. That way you can use the energy during the day. Pooh to Atkins! He died any way, maybe it was from a bad diet!

Atkins has four phases: the first phase being the most strict, the phase most people focus on negatively and the shortest phase (no more than 2 weeks). In the first phase (introductory), you are severely limited to what you can eat. But, as you progress through the phases to the final phase (phase 4), you can add more and more types of foods back into your diet.

People blindly think the first phase is the entire Atkins diet. It isn't. There are three other phases that increase the amounts and types of foods you can eat until you reach the maintenance phase in phase 4 (where you can fully eat fruits, vegetables, meats and even some grain products).

Of course, you never get back to eating the non-nutritional garbage prior to the diet.

So, yes, you can be flexible. Does it work? Yes, it can work for some people. It does restrict the amount of carbs you eat. That's not to say that it's easy to maintain. You have to be committed to any diet for it to work. If you easily get cravings for twinkies, ding dongs, cookies, ice cream, cokes and snickers bars, then you may not be able to stay on this diet.

With any diet, you have to commit yourself to it. Not just for a couple months, but for the rest of your life if you want to see permanent changes.

As far as what's considered 'healthy' or 'unhealthy' by people posting here, keep in mind that these statements are all based on someone else's opinion. Whether that opinion comes from a doctor, a dietician or your mother makes no difference. You need to examine the diet yourself and make the decision as to whether or not _you_ think it's healthy.

It's becoming increasingly clear that doctors are making educated guesses about 'health risks' based on incomplete data. What is clear is this: lab created and manufactured foods are unhealthy, whole foods directly from nature are generally considered healthy foods (unless tainted by pesticides or growth hormones).

The body wants to eat natural whole foods from nature. It doesn't want to process (and doesn't process properly) manufactured foods from factories. Manufactured foods are partially the reason why the country is experiencing rampant health problems.

Think of it this way, the farther removed from nature, the less healthy the food is. So, as a grape is directly from nature, it is considered a healthy food (when eaten in moderation and included as part of a complete diet). Grape juice is at least twice removed from nature (juiced and concentrated and possibly pasteurized) and is, thus, less healthy to drink than eating grapes. Partially because it's manufactured (not naturally occurring) and partly because the body doesn't handle superconcentrated foods well.

The farther something gets from it's whole natural state, the less vitamins and minerals it contains. so the less healthy it becomes.
