Slow metabolism?

Question:
I generally eat very healthy and I do about 30 mins of cardio 5 days a week with 2 strength training sessions. I think I may haveslowed down my metabolism from not consuming enough calories. How do I incorporate more food into my diet without gaining weight in order to speed up my metabolism?

Answers:
May not be what you're eating, may be your hormones. Don't know how old you are but once I hit about 28 my metabolism slowed even though I had changed nothing about my diet. I've heard the same from other women. It can happen anywhere between 25-35 years and then again at about 40-45. The best thing you can do to increase your metabolism is to increase your cardio. Either do 7 days a week or if that's not possible you can increase time to 45 minute or the intensity to increasy your heart rate. Also, make sure you are doing your cardio first thing in the morning even if that means getting up earlier. It will keep your metabolism up for the entire day, even when you are sitting. You didn't metion anything about your current diet either. I don't know how many calories you are currently consuming. Just make sure you are eating no more than 2 fruits and at least 3 veggies daily. Eat whole grains and brown rice rather than "white" foods. Reduced fat dairy products are important for bone density and don't forget your vitamin to to maximise absorbtion. These foods should be avoided altogehter or eaten very moderately: butter, cheese, mayo, peanut butter, egg yolks, and anything deep fried. Don't forget 8 glasses of water daily, no caffeine and no soda. Try not to focus on weight but on being healthy and fit!

Avoid processed foods like protein shakes and bars. They are a marketing scam and you don't need them. Plus most of them contain a ton of sugar! You are better off eating whole foods.

Other Answers:
I would try to add more veggies and maybe some more protein very slowly, a little more each day.

try to take it slow, increase the amount of food gradually so that your metabolism gets used to it.
and keep on working out.

go with protein. Muscles will burn more calories. Sounds like you are starving yourself.

Try eating more small meals per day. Go for five small meals, instead of three regular meals. This will increase your metabolism. Also, if youre nearing 30 years old.get used to it. I used to have a superfast metabolism.now its dead slow and Im gaining weight too! BUMMER! But, I walk every day at lunch for at least 45 minutes, eat right and try to exercise, and Im keeping it off!

BTW, youre gorgeous. Your pic reminds me of Liv Tyler..

When does our metabolism work? Well the truth is it's always working, even when you are sleeping. A well designed fitness program will elevate the metabolic rate.

Below are nine closely guarded steps to increasing your metabolic rate.

1. Eat protein at every meal, including breakfast.

2. Eliminate wheat- and flour-based products for the time being. And yes, that definitely includes bread and pasta.

3. Eat unprocessed foods. Ninety percent of what you eat should be a combination of (in this order of importance) raw vegetables, steamed vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and a few fruits.

4. Reduce starch to one portion a day, and don't eat that portion during your evening meal. Best choices of starches are beans, sweet potatoes, and oatmeal.

5. Reduce or eliminate dairy for the time being, especially cow's milk. Exceptions: reasonable amounts of low sugar, fat free yogurt.

6. Lose the booze. There is nothing essential in alcohol that you can't get in fruits and vegetables without all the bad side effects that go along with it.

7. Stop using vegetable oils. The supermarket kind is highly refined, and it oxidizes easily when heated, contributing to arterial plaque. Use olive oil instead, and apply it to food after the food is cooked when possible.

8. Watch which types of fat you're eating. The amount of fat you eat is probably less important than the kind of fat you eat. The worst are fried foods, margarine and foods that contain hydrogenised or partially hydrogenised oils. The best is omega-3, found in fish and flaxseed oil.

9. Obsessively drink water: At least 8 ounces for every 20 pounds of bodyweight you're now carrying around, each day. Everyday. No excuses.

YOU HAVE TO EAT MORE TO SPEED IT UP TRY FOOD THATS GOOD FOR YOU AND JUST EAT A LOT OF IT LIKE FRUITS AND STUFF LIKE THAT

You probably did slow it down by not eating enough. This is why some diets that involve not eating backfire. I suggest eating food of a higher caloric content and continue what you are doing. Your body will put it to good use.

SLOW AND STEADY WITH PROTEINS.YOUR BODY WILL BURN THEM WITH YOUR EXERCISE.

Increase your protein intake and ensure that your diet is at least 33 percent protein. It's best to accomplish this by using low calorie low fat protein bars or drinks or protein puddings the drinks and puddings btw are only 80-90 calories. The bars are between 160-275 calories depending on the brand and the size. Promax is a good brand-its available at your pharmacy, it's delicious, and has 20 grams of protein per serving. You can't go wrong. An added bonus is the variety of flavours from mint to chocolate to black forest cake to lemon meringue pie ~ yum~

As I've stated in a past question of yours, Green tea is known to speed up your metabolism. Metabolism also has a lot to do w/your family, does your parents or grandparents have a good metabolism?
