Ahh Root Canal!?
Question:

Front teeth are quick and easy to numb. 1 hour MAX. Root canals hurt if there is a history of infection. (On average) for front teeth. Expect a little sharp pain comeing and going in intensity for 3 days followed by no symptoms after that.
Brittleness Since you've put it off for a year you will need a crown. A bit of advice if it's not too much of an esthetic challenge try to wait 1 month or 1.5 months between root canal and Crown. Reason being. If any re-current infection or lingering pain were to occur it would have a good chance of showing during this time. There is nothing worse that cutting off a brand new crown to re-treat a root canal. For the patient because he has to sit through an second crown preperation and possibly incur additional expense. And for the dentist because he has to expain why. If you can leave some time between the root canal and the crown do it

I had my front tooth done last year it was horrible. It took at least 2 hours of drilling (because they have to drill out the extending nerves as well) and they will give you a temporary. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A TEMPORARY BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGIN..They take your primary tooth and drill it down until its a spike and that is what the temporary sits on.. You have my sympathies.
No, root canals shouldn't hurt. The worst part is getting numb, & that is over very fast! A root canal on a front tooth should maybe take an hour. Good luck!

If a root canal hurts, something is wrong with the situation. You should be numb , just like a filling. If it does not get numb, it is infected and the process should be stopped, antibiotics taken and readdressed in 7-10days. I do root canals and have had one, a front tooth is the easiest however, the shot is uncomfortable. Also, teeth become brittle after root canals, yes. You may need a crown placed.

A root canal on a front tooth, either upper or lower is a very easy, quick procedure. There is only one root suppling the tooth, and it's usually straight. Depending on the amount of decay, would determine whether the tooth is "brittle" or not, thus needing a crown is dependent on that. For post op, make sure you take either Ibuprofen or Naproxin Sodium, (not tylenol). Ibuprofen and Naproxin Sodium have a natural anti-inflamatory response, most pain post op is from inflamation. Your dentist will provide you with a script for an antibiotic if necessary.
A front tooth is the easiest of root canals to have performed. The only thing you should feel is the pinch when the dentist numbs you.. everything else will be a breeze and the procedure should be fairly quick considering it is a front tooth. Good luck to you and don't worry. you'll be fine.
