what is the proper term for a medical condition called "an upside down uterus"?
Question:
Answers:
I haven't heard of an upside down uterus. I do ultrasounds for a living, and have imaged thousands of uteri. A uterus is described as having the shape of an upside down pear. A uterus which tips backwards is called a retrovered uterus.
PS. Ah, an inverted uterus, maybe? Yes?
That is a complication from delivering a baby.
Strictly speaking an inverted uterus is where the uterus tries to turn itself inside out (after birth or in trying to expel a fibroid) whereas a retroverted uterus is one that lies tilted backwards instead of forwards when not pregnant. http://www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/faq.asp?newsid=1992&p=15
