I am a graduate student and have insurance, but it costs me $648/month JUST for the insurance. I am Diabetic and take an SSRI for anxiety. I have zero income as my degree program does not allow students to have any kind of employment (Juris Doctorate) during the school year. My insulin costs $78/bottle, which lasts 12 days. My insulin pump supplies cost $965 for approx. 3 months worth of supplies. My test strips are $1.25 EACH, and I must test 4 times a day. My migrain pills (which I really cannot go without) are $273 for 10. My Glucagon pen costs $23 and must be replaced each year (and if used), incase I have dangerously low bloodsugar. My SSRI costs $481 for 90 days worth. I must see a physician every 3 months to make sure my diabetes is under control.which costs quite a lot as well. I will lose my insurance in 2 years, as I am on a COBRA policy, and then will have to pay more than $1000/month for a private policy, which is STILL cheaper, even including co-payments/deductibles, than my regular medications are.
INSURANCE IS GETTING MORE EXPENSIVE EVERY YEAR. COMPANIES WANT EMPLOYEES TO PAY A LARGER SHARE WITH THE SAME INCOME AND YOU USUALLY HAVE TO PAY LARGER DEDUCTIBLE ALSO.ADD IN INFLATION AND ITS NO WONDER ITS HARDER TO MEET MEDICAL COSTS.WHEN YOUR RETIRED AND ON A FIXED INCOME ITS WORSE. I HAVE 12 YRS. BEFORE MY SUPPOSED RETIREMENT. I'LL PROBABLY HAVE TO WORK UNTIL I DIE.I WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO RELY ON SOC. SECURITY AND MY 401K.CAN'T HAPPEN.
not enough income to afford insurance - my father is a doctor so I am lucky that most of my normal medical needs are taken care of at home.
i posted a question here before i have a cousin who's hiv know of any help(serious)
Fortunately I don't have that problem. I live in England where we have a lot of free healthcare, although most people do have to pay for their medicines. It's not good really because when you have to pay for them, they are expensive. It costs my fiance £6 (I think that's about $10) just for a tiny little tube of cream. Now we get help with taht because we have a baby under one but, typically, none of us have neede medicine recently!
