Are there any special hair dyes that will dye my black/dark brown hair?

I want my hair to turn out a dark reddish brown. Is it possible? I've heard that there are dyes specifically designed for black hair but I haven't been able to find it.

Yeah, but you may have to use a lightener first. Black dark brown hair does not take dye well at all. I keep my hair reddish brown but I'm a natural blonde. You can buy a lightening kit at your local beauty supply shop. It may turn a bit orange on you or only go to a brown. Just make sure the dye you chose is darker then the color your hair ends up after lightening it.

You should bleach your hair first to get the color that is shown on the box but if you dont want to do that then you should dye it a few shades lighter than the actual color you want. So in your case do it redder so it will come out darker.
