Basically, move toward the vegetarian end of the spectrum. Go for fewer fats, carbohydrates. Bake, broil, boil. Avoid frying. Use meat as a flavoring, not the main item. The same with most dairy - it's got lots of fat. Take a walk everyday. Limit sweets, alcohol. An apple is better than a glass of apple juice. Roughage.
It's a pain at first, but if you keep it up for a few weeks it starts being a habit, then after a few months or a year it's just the way you are.
