Is there any way to get rid of shin splints?

Question:
or at least make it so it doesnt hurt as bad

Answers:
Those are soooo painful and frustrating. They may never go away completely. All you can do is to rest, use lots of ice and stretch plenty before running. I developed them a few years ago and they have not left yet.

Other Answers:
1. rest
2. stretch: put your back against the wall, walk your feet away from the wall, keeping the toes on the floor. When your feet are 2-3 ft. from the wall, lean forward and touch your toes, keeping your toes on the floor.

ice your shins down and eat more potassium.try bananas

Shin splints occur because your calf muscles, which are lifting your whole body weight, become stronger faster than your shin muscles, which are only lifting the weight of your toes. Tired muscles contract. When the calf and shin muscles get tired and contract in opposition to each other, the stronger calf muscle tears the weaker shin muscle.

You can do two things to prevent and cure shin splints:

1: Stretch the calf muscles. The link explains how to do that.

2: Strengthen the shin muscles. To do this, lift weights with your toe. Rig a dumbell with a strap that goes around your ankle. Stand on something about 6" high with the weight on the floor. Put the strap around the back of your ankle with your toe under the dumbell. Stand up straight. Hold your heel a couple inches off the floor and lift the weight by rotating your toe upward while keeping your heel above the floor. Repeat 8 to 12 times. When you can do it 12 times, increase the weight. Of course, do this for both legs, and like with all weight training, do it every other day. You can and should stretch daily. It will take a week or two for your shin splints to go away.

You'll be surprised how much weight you can lift with your toe!
