I have been told that I need a brain scan due to the fact that my chin reflexes are brisk..any ideas?

Get the MRI. You need to BE SURE your pain is not the result of a serious brain lesion/condition. Hyper-reflexia is a sign of an 'upper motor neuron lesion'. This can be caused by several types of central nervous system injury (conditions that can be very serious). So take seriously the recommendation for the MRI.
If the MRI is 'negative', that is, it is normal, then it may be time to get additional opinions about the possible causes of your pain. A good Chiropractic evaluation and a Naturopathic Evaluation might be a good idea.
Also, if no obvious physical cause of your chronic pains can be found, then I would suggest an excellent book by Sherry Rogers, M.D. called: "Pain Free in 6 Weeks". The book is available from Amazon.com or her publisher at 1-800-846-6687. She does an incredible job of explaining the actual causes of pain that usually are labeled 'Fibromyalgia', and she explains how to treat the cause (which is always best).
Best wishes and good luck.

I'd go ahead and have the brain scan. They might find some hidden cause for all this.
I sympathise with you on the pain meds. My wife has fibro, and has gone through the same thing with them on thinking you just want drugs. She hasn't had a decent night's sleep in years!
don't be a dope/the free radicals from med.s is not good for any one./smoke pot.it's new vaporizer(the volcano)is a worth-while investment.no free radicals exelent for up to 4 hrs relief for app. street price 2.50 to 3dollars.up front cost is bit 800.lol & cinzanoo.
hyperreflexia or jaw jerk depend to patient age but this is pathologic and need to evaluate at first by meticulous physical examination by your neurologist and than take a MRI.
I would take whatever tests my doctor suggested. For pain management, however, I might suggest alternative methods. There is a type of pain relief called "pranic" (not panic) therapy and is performed by specialized massage therapists. It works! Also consider the chiropractor or acupuncture. Sometimes these alternative methods work when everything else fails.
Sometimes when there are weird symptoms and severe pain, it is actually caused due to nerve blockage or damage in the spine. This can be helped tremendously by a chiropractor and time.
