In an increasingly androgynous culture it's nice to see long hair on a girl. It's more feminine.
I like girls with short hair and I like girls with long hair, it's the in betweeen I don't like. What I mean is if you're going to have short hair you have to keep it looking good all the time, it has to a be a stylish cropped look. If it grows out at all it starts to look middle-aged. Long hair's good but I actually prefer a cool short cut. I suppose with most guys it's not something they even think about. They have short hair therefore girls should have long hair. It's just tradition or their reptilian instincts at work, I dunno. Anyway if short hair suits you go for it, just keep it looking its best.
Perhaps it is part of our baser instincts, a distinction between the sexes, although as our culture matures these instincts are less of a drive and beauty can be in any form. long as you are happy with who you are, then those around you should be happy.

My religion requires long hair, never ever to be cut according to the Bible, Corn 1st book. Hey, I don't make the rules. Mine use to be shaved in the back and about 3" all over and I loved it that way, now it's mid-way down my back and driving me crazy.
