VOCAL NODULES:cause, correct and prevention. If not corrected? Will they go away? Return?

Question:
I have vocal nodules on each side of my vocal cords. My voice is week. It come and goes. I've had this problem for 10 weeks. I have no other symptoms. The Doctor prescibed me a 5 day supply of methylprednisolne 4MG. He said it comes from straining and to refain from singing for 6 months or raising my voice. I now getting a dry cough. Can you give me more information on my problem. Is there someone that has had this problem without it returning. Or does it go away at all. Please help!

Answers:
I'm not a doctor, but I've been around a lot of singers, and I can tell you this is a serious problem that needs a doctor specializing in vocal cords who has worked with singers. Don't just go to an internist or ear, nose & throat dr. for this, especially if you want to sing again. Also, you may need to change voice teachers. You're using your voice incorrectly, and if you don't correct the root problem, the nodules will just come back. An excellent doctor for this is Robert Sataloff in Philadelphia.
