why would someone's white blood cells attack themselves. my uncles doctor told him his were what's wrong w/him

Question: i looked on the net, the only disease w/ these sypmtoms i find is aids. i don't think my uncle would tell me if he had aids, but could it be something else. and help or answers would be GREATLY appreciated.

he can have an atuo immune diease not nessarly AIDS but like LUPUS and there are others basicly your body attacks itself if it is Lupus there are three types
