Why do black tattoos sometimes turn green?

Question:
I want to get a tattoo of cat's eyes on the back of my neck, but I have dark skin, and I'm worried it will fade to green. I know some fading is avoidable, but does anyone know how to counteract or minimize this effect?

Answers:
You need to be very good about aftercare right after getting your tattoo. Your artist should give you instructions on basic aftercare. Proper moisturizing, avoiding sun exposure, not swimming or exposing to water should help the ink set in the body.

After it's healed you still need to treat your tat with care. Whenever you go out in the sun you should put a strong sunblock on your ink to minimize fading from sun exposure.

Proper care should keep it looking great longer but it will eventually fade with time. You can always get it touched up in the future if you miss the dark solid color of fresh ink.

Other Answers:
It has something to do with the pigment in ink.

its usually because of the ink, but I do know from experience that sun exposure also fades tattoos.
