Nose crust--crazy question?

Question:

Hi,

Is there anything in your nose that you cannot pick (for example, up on the top of your nose, is there cartilage or something?) I've been picking i think too much and it seems to smell different and i get a strange sensation on that side.

Im laughing while im writing this because its so gross but it's a concern !

ok, no idea what's wrong with your nose or why youre picking it so much, but i'm glad you can laugh about it cuz you sure made me giggle! :)

As to what you are feeling/smelling.while it's certainly not common, I suppose if you are picking it that aggressively, it is possible that you could have scratched the inside of your nose enough to cause it to become infected in one spot. You could try coating the area with some sort of topical antibiotic cream like Neosporin and see if the smell/feeling goes away over time. Needless to say, you have to stop scratching at the area.

Another possibility that is even less likely is that there is some sort of fissure or passage draining from a nearby sinus. I know of no way to verify that other than to ask your doctor to look up there with his otoscope (a lighted instrument designed to look in noses).

Assuming there is no infection to worry about, I'd encourage you to put a thin layer of vaseline to coat your nose rather than pick it. It will melt away the crust.
