My husband will have a heart valve replaced. What's your preference: synthethic, pig or cow valve and why?
Answers:
I had my pulmonary valve replaced last year at the age of 34.
Animal valves (pig or cow doesn't matter) are good because they function naturally just like normal human valves. They require no upkeep at all during their lifetime and no special limitations. However, they wear out every 10 to 15 years and must be replaced. This means a major surgery is guaranteed a little less than once a decade. Animal valves have no risk of rejection at all. The human body doesn't even recognize them. They are a good choice for young people who will still be healthy enough in 12 years to undergo another surgery.
Synthetic valves are good because they do not wear out. On the downside, they have many edges where clots can form so the recipient will have to be on blood thinners the rest of his life. Blood thinners cause bruising all over the body. They make it more difficult to heal and may contribute to a host of medical conditions. Like animal valves, there is never any risk of rejection. Synthetic valves are a good choice for elderly patients who probably won't be strong enough in 12 years to withstand another surgery.
Good luck.
P.S. don't pay any attention to the guy below me. Should be sanitized? They all come completely sanitized and hermetically packaged from the med lab. Don't worry about unsanitary valves of any sort.

A porcine mitral valve. It worked very well for a man I knew, although I think that at some point it has to be replaced, like after 10 or 15 years.contact info for a store called VaVaVoom at the Marina Mall in Salmiya, Kuwait?
Actually, I heard somewhere that a pig valve is the closest anatomically speaking to a human heart valve. With the synthetic valve you run the risk of mechanical failure, with the pig valve there's the risk of physical failure. With both- you have the risk of rejection. I wouldn't even mess with the cow valve at all.do you need a ged to be a cna?
Porcine (pig) is the one just like the human heart, so I guess I would pick that one.doctors in baton rouge that give physicals?
Say wat? pig or cow valve??never heard of it be4.i think Synthetic valve will be better.
My reason is because Synthetic materials are known to last long & are also durable. My point is that if he has a synthetic heart valve replaced, that tends to last long on him but the synthetic SHOULD be sanitized by the doctor operating on him be4 use.:)
That's all i have to say 4 now.:)
