I have been clinically depressed for four years to date and I don't want to take medicine.

I am battling depression too, and I have found natural things that help without harmful side effects.
You might look into trying SamE, or St John's Wort. Also taking a B Complex really helps me feel better.They can be found in the health food store or the vitamin section at Wal-Mart. Read the labels first to make sure they are suited for you.

These have been helpful for me. Also just learning to love yourself and accept who you are and know that you have worth and value. You are special just as you are. No one else can take your place.

If you need to talk to someone, find a good trustworthy counselor to help you work through this.
You CAN get better, I know I am getting there. Just take it one step at a time.

Good Lord, when you need medicine, take it! Clinical Depression is not an insignificant problem. It is not something for which you should try self-help measures. No, I do not think that you can "talk yourself out of being clinically depressed".
Please take your meds and talk with your health-care professionals as openly as possible. Tell them why you dislike your medicines. Perhaps there is a new or different combination which would give you more help and more hope?

I'm guessing you've tried to talk yourself out of your depression before. Has it worked so far? Please get mental help. It's not a bad thing.

NO you can't talk yourself out of depression. It truly is a medical condition.
I do think that a change in diet can improve it though.

Eat more high quality protein, stay away from sugar.

Me too, I've been talking anti-depressant medicine for about four years.
I am seeing a councelor, and going to enroll some personality programs (i think it's about learning about yourself and coping skills)
So may be you can try these too.
