I have been told that when you have a cold, you should not drink milk. Is this true?

Question:
The reason given was that milk and other dairy products can increase phlegm.

Answers:
yes it is true u should not drink milk when the cold has left the head area and has moved to the chest.the reason is that when milk breaks down it carries enzymes all over the body including ur lungs there it causes the lungs to create more mucus and therefor prolong the healing process.

Other Answers:
I've been told the same.

yes it is

I have not heard this yet. You can try Yahoo Health and webmd about new research about such a topic.

Yes its true, it does increase the phlegm. You should drink clear liquids. Plenty of water, and plenty of rest.

Dairy products are really bad for grown ups in general. The best source of information on this topic is from James McDougal, M.D. Here's a good article for starts:

I have never been told not to drink milk during a simple cold. However, if you are running a fever then, yes, you should avoid milk. Instead stick with the liquids the doctor recommends (i.e. gingerale, water). It's always best, though, to consult a doctor, they know best!! Hope this helps!!

yeah that's true
