How do I put hair spikes in, I'm an african american guy?

I think hair spikes and other unique hair styles are cool. I want to be different, to reflect all of the places I've been to and, people I've met.
Mowhawks, clay based hair styles, all of it interests me! Any ideas or suggestions?

ok since you are african american you need to go to a salon and get your hair relaxed because if you put a gel or wax its just going to curl up and you wont be able to do anything with it .so go to a salon get it relaxed and cut in the style that you want and after that they can teach you what products and things to use for your hair.goodluck

My friend uses something called hair wax. He has a really long, tall spiked mohawk. It looks really good because he puts it in like 4 or 5 spikes going back. So you should probably use a hair wax and then finish it with a strong holding hair spray. Just a little side note. He uses ALOT of hair wax and gels so be prepared to buy and use ALOT of hair stuff if you want them to stay up and strong. He uses almost a whole container. Good Luck!!
