What's the best treatment for a cornea scratch?
Does my hair get back to normal after pregnancy?
Answers:
First of all, I experienced this problem recently with my child. It is very painful! The treatment we gave her is basically the same as it would be for anyone.
When you scratch the cornea it makes your eye very sensitive to light, there is pain varying in the degree of the scratched area, and a lot of uncontrollable tears.
We had no idea what was wrong with her so we took her to the emergency room. They evalutated her and found it to be an issue with her eye.
To confirm the problem a special dye was put in and the room lights were turned out while a black light was hovered over the eye. It clearly shows the depth of the cut. Everything shows up a fluorescent green color. We could see how badly her eye was cut.
Her treatment included: an antibiotic to apply to the eye, an eye patch to protect the eye, however, in our case our child was too small to tolerate the eye patch so we kept her in a darkened room for about 24 hours and she was able to tolerate light once again. She was also given medication to help relieve the pain.
We were told she shouldn't rub the eye as this would only aggravate the pain and healing process. The doctor said the cornea is the fastest healing area of the body and only takes a day or two to heal. That is the good news!
This was my personal experience and the treatment is the general treatment for anyone with a cornea scratch.

Opthalmic antibiotic, probably gentamicin or tobramycin. See a doctor.More Questions and Answers
