what are the pros and cons of the methedone program?

Question:

I have a family member trying to decide if this is a good option for him to try and get off street drugs and get his life back in order. I know very little about the program. If anyone has some feed back it would be greatly appreciated, especialy if anyone has done it themselves. Thank you

The pros is that you get off of dangerous unchecked street drugs.
The con is that you get on regulated illegal drugs.

If the treatment is done accompanied with mental treatment there is a good cahnce the person can quit.

Methadone isn't a legal drug either.
